Airtel ATN is an independent supplier of data communications software for the aviation industry, in particular the ATN (Aeronautical Telecommunication Network).
Engineering Team
The Engineering team within Airtel ATN is responsible for evolving Airtel’s products and for integrating these products into solutions for the Aeronautical industry.
Role Summary
The role of a Senior Software Engineer in the Engineering Team at Airtel ATN requires solving a wide range of difficult problems in imaginative and practical ways. The Senior Engineer will normally be assigned to a project and report to the Project Manager/Lead Engineer for the execution of agreed project activities. The Senior Software Engineer must be able to take ownership of specific complex tasks, and take them to completion. The software is normally developed using C / C++.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with sales, customers and partners to capture and refine requirements
- Work with colleagues and partners to define the optimal technical design
- Produce requirements specifications, design specifications and test plans
- Take a leadership role for design and development of discrete modules
- Participate in peer reviews of requirements specifications, design specifications and code
- Travel on site, mainly within Europe and to the US, as required to integrate Airtel’s components into customer solutions
Personal characteristics:
- 5+ years of software design and development, ideally on telecommunications stacks and using C / C++
- Is proactive in a development team, contributes significantly to the success of the team and is able to gain the co-operation of others.
- Demonstrates an organised, systematic, disciplined and analytical approach to designing, problem solving, coding and defect fixing.
- Has excellent oral and written communication skills for effective dialogue with colleagues, partners and customers
- Is a positive team member, treats colleagues and customers with respect and is able to deal with demanding situations in a calm and organised manner
- Continues to develop an appreciation of the wider field of technology outside his/her own specialisation and has developed a good broad understanding of computer system architecture, telecommunications technologies, and telecommunications industry developments and trends.
